The Bazaruto archipelago is composed of Bazaruto Island, Benguerra Island, Magaruque Island and the small island of Santa Carolina (also popularly known as Paradise Island). The archipelago was declared a National park in 2000 and presents a wide diversity of fauna and flora which includes forest, savanna and swamp eco-systems. The area is also known for its spectacular marine life and is renowned for its diving and fishing and pristine private white sandy beaches. The archipelago is deservedly called the "Pearl of the Indian Ocean".
